No. 38
Welcome to your club. The club is to be informal, relaxed and very friendly but at the same time professional.
This month’s newsletter is dedicated to
Phil Ashford (Sarge)
He has been fighting a long battle, passing away on Sunday 3rd June.
The Club sends messages of sympathy to his family, shows won’t be the same without you.
Phil was a larger than life character he loved his tot of whisky on the trailer and was loved by everyone.
We are so glad he won the Best in Show at Shepton Mallet for UT with his immaculate Ford Fuels truck.
You will be sadly missed Phil.
Shirley and Tony attended the funeral to represent
United Truckers along with many other members.
PETERBOROUGH
Once again a cold one although mainly dry but very cold at the beginning of the weekend. It was the 25th Anniversary but nothing much to say that or nothing given to the drivers to thank them for their support over the years. We must thank Dick Binning & Steve Lyons for towing the trailer there and Stan Robinson for after the show taking the trailer to his yard in Stafford. We had a really good weekend for memberships 53 renewals and 13 new members.

CHILDRENS CONVOY 2007
This is our next big event Saturday 16th June 07 and we are going to Bristol Zoo. We now have all the lorries we need. If you have booked a place please contact your area rep for times and meeting place. We are all converging on Gordens Services and then hopefully police escort on to The Downs where the lorries will be parked for the afternoon. HTV have said they will attend but watch this space regarding that. Mark Parsons has worked hard with them and the police but whether they turn up is another thing but he has been working really hard. Any donations for the goodie bags would be appreciated.
- Andover Paul Rummey 07920282366 20 lorries

DINNER & DANCE
We are still searching for a venue for this Annual event, which incorporates the AGM. We require a meal or buffet and accommodation. We had thought we’d found a perfect venue but its 3 rooms and not one big one so we didn’t think it would be suitable, any suggestions please?!
SPECIAL THANKSto Ann Rummey from Andover who did a raffle at her work Stannah Stairlifts for the Children’s Convoy. The Company matched funded it so we have another £100 towards the event
CONGRATULATIONS to Jason Norman & Stacey
on the birth of a little boy Dylan Ray
born Sunday 20th May, 7lb 9oz.
Let’s hope he’ll be hands on later in life, like his dad!!

FRANCE
We had a phone call at Oswestry from Russell Oliver, Simpsons Removals to say he went to a truck show in Alef France he wasn’t booked in until arriving and had 2nd place for Best in Show! How about that!
SHROPSHIRE SHOW
This show just grows and grows. There was a lot more trucks and a much bigger show all round. Although the weather was not very kind to us, it was cold and then on Sunday the heavens opened, so the results were given in the bar area. Neil and Russ really do welcome everyone and nothing is too much trouble.

I don’t know if you all know but Ian Course’s Tigger has gone on holiday with Russell and photos are being taken everywhere abroad, some are even with Martin Fat Lad, so we expect to edit some of them before being made public.
CRICKET ST THOMAS
United Truckers did a new charity event at Cricket St Thomas. All profits raised were going to St Margaret’s Hospice, Taunton. The show was very good for their first but as it was basically run by the Blue Ridge Runners with years of experience between them it lived up to expectations. Ian Course, Tigger ‘towed’ the trailer so thanks to him. Ian and Jeremy Ruff both won trophies for two of the best exhibits in the show. We took 8 lorries so we did really well as there was some lovely bikes and cars there.
PENNTH SHOW
Ady Ford from David E Davis did very well at Pennth Show (Peak). He had
· Best DAF in show,
· 1st for interior,
· 1st for Best Newcomer to Peak Show
· Highly Commended Custom & Company Owned
Marc Greening also did well
· 3rd Owner Driver
· 3rd Interior
· Highly Commended Senior Truck
DETLING SHOW
We attended Detling Show in Kent. We had beautiful weather glorious sunshine and sun the loveliest show ground we have been to. This year we had said we wouldn’t go but we enjoyed it so much and we picked up 2 renewals and 12 new members we will be going again.
In the final of the Live Promotions all but 2 lorries were United Truckers members. We must thank Charlie & Anita Smart for taking the trailer and Tony Borrow for driving the lorry for Smarts. Without their kindness we couldn’t have gone this year it’s an awkward show to get to, so thank you very much. Tony took the trailer back to Southampton and he will then take it to NASSA in Dudley.
