IN MEMORY OF DAVID CORDNER WRITTEN BY
MATHEW JAMES REMOVALS EMPLOYER
I interviewed David Cordner in September 2005 he told me that he was a great worker with experience but no good at reading or writing. I helped him with the application form, I remember saying to Matt that everyone deserves a chance. He turned out to be one of the best men we have ever had. Not many employees can you just call up to send to another job, Dave's reply was always 'no problem I'm on my way' He loved his work, we put him through for his driving license, his vehicle was his pride and joy, he was forever polishing it. Everyone in the industry knew him; he won best fleet at Brands Hatch and was always at the truck shows. Dave loved a drink and was always the life and sole of the party. In November of this year we had a 58 plate vehicle built for him, he did not like anyone driving it. Sadly on Christmas Eve he shouted to his Porter Marcus who was sleeping beside him and collapsed at the wheel, even till the end he prevented what could have been a major collision. Amazingly they had stopped outside a ladies house who was the nurse of a heart surgeon, Marcus assisted the Lady while she did everything she could to save him, and an ambulance was also there in minutes. Unfortunately they could not revive him and he left us at only 48 years of age. Dave left behind his loving wife of over 27 years Sandy, three daughters and a son Mark. He also left a company and its entire staff devastated. How do you ever replace such a well loved unique employee? The vehicle now sits in our yard looking very lost without its driver. David Cordner was much loved by everyone
LAST YEAR On the 29th of November we had a good get together at the Woodborough Inn Winscombe. We had about 50 people there which were a lot more than last time. It’s just nice to have a chat with everyone and catch up before the A.G.M in February. The food was good and I think everyone enjoyed it. We had a game of killer skittles and split up in to 2 teams Steve’s team and Ian's team. Everyone put in a £1 and winners took all, Steve's team won and they kindly donated the money back to the club, and we all decided to donate it to BIBIC. We had a raffle to cover the food and had £27 left over so that will be donated to which totalled in £45 to BIBIC not bad for a night out. Talking of BIBIC they are trying to raise 2 million and now on top of everything they have now lost their hydro swimming pool in the fire it was totally destroyed. Hopefully the insurance will pay out for this; but we will do our bit at the Blue Ridge runner shows to help raise money for them.

2009 We now enter a difficult time for everyone loss of jobs, Short time of work and the threat whether your job is safe or not. We can only hope that everyone hangs in there until better times appear. We will be at the shows again this year but whether we will see the shows of the past remains to be seen. We will do our best to keep things rolling as a club but we are aware that sponsorships could be harder but at £50-£60 a time we might be able to pull through. If you feel you can sponsor a class please let Shirley now on 07889913837 or 01823276143 and she will slot you in somewhere. Membership forms will be in your April news which we will get out as early as possible as your membership expires on the 31st March. At present its £20 and at the A.G.M probably will stay the same. Everyone ought to keep it up as you do have an accidental death insurance included in the cost so the membership is actually cheap and if you add up all the cups of tea you can have anyone and everyone in the club it makes it so cheap its ridiculous, when you pay £1 plus at the shows. If anyone wants any stock ordered for Peterborough; polo shirts, fleeces, t-shirts etc please give Shirley a ring so she can get it for you for the event.
SHOWS At PETERBOROUGH we should be in the same spot. if you want a space kept for you by the trailer give Shirley a ring to let Tony know as he never has his mobile on which you all might have gathered by now.(Too modern for him you see bungle drums are still in fashion for him)
The forms are included for Blue Ridge Runner small show at Cricket St Thomas with cars, bikes etc and a weekend party plus the added bonus of looking around the ground of Cricket St Thomas for nothing.
Forms and discount vouchers also included for OSWESTRY run by Neil & Russ and WE will have nice weather this year.
NASSA forms will be in April’s news for Kingswinwood (NR Dudley) another lovely friendly show.
BRANDS HATCH forms are still being sorted at the moment as developments unfold. We will pass them on separately to those who normally go.
WANTED We are looking for another cuddly toy to name next year if anyone can help AND NOT TAZ BUBBLES
