No. 40

Welcome to your club. The club is to be informal, relaxed and very friendly but at the same time professional.

THRUXTON
Wow what a fabulous weekend the topic of weather was extreme, rain and thunder Friday morning cleared until Saturday afternoon then rain again but a lovely Sunday, so very lucky.
As Shirley didn’t think she would be attending everyone rallied around to help for the weekend. Thanks to Simon for taking over the judging section, Natalie for stock and raffle. I am sure Steve Horne would like to thank Mark, Nicky & Tony for all their help in parking up the trucks which is a very important job to get them all in. Very special thanks to Gareth on Wayne Bolsdons for towing the trailer to Thruxton. I have to apologise
to them for omitting the Thruxton weekend. Without these people we couldn’t have had the Club trailer at all these events and we must not forget to thank the bosses for the driver’s time and the vehicle expense, so thank you Wayne.

The show itself had about 130 lorries turn up some failed with weather, traffic etc, but the trucks were the highest standard.

What makes this show so special is that you have the Truck Racing thrown in which is great. Our Brian Burt only raced on Saturday due to the lorry having problems.

The raffle made £239 which was excellent, thanks to Natalie & Josh for going around and thanks to David CDC for the lovely main prize he donated for the raffle.

After the show the trailer went back to Chris Hewlett’s yard in Andover (Danabb) for the next show Uttoxeter

Just to say

Unfortunately I have not had time to book Longleat for next year’s convoy, nor next years AGM and Bash or the Xmas get together.

I have had 9 year old twin boys staying for over a week so all my energy and time has been spent with them!!
By the next newsletter it should all be in place.
Thank you for all the phone calls asking about Dad after his heart attack an stay in hospital. He’s now fine having had a stent fitted; I know at Thruxton everyone was concerned.

UTTOXETER

One of our favourite shows very relaxed no pressure just a lovely friendly show. The whole show got moved to hard standing and grass because of the terrible weather conditions prior to the show. It was only a one off but for us not quite good as we were in the residential area. We were on egg shells a bit but it was nice to know that we had been put there as we (UT members) could be trusted with noise level and air horns. There was a bout 40 members there more than we thought so the judges had it a bit easier.

ASSAN
A group of us attended the Assan Show in Holland, we haven’t been since the year 2000 and it’s changed a bit but the show is still fabulous. You ask anyone that went our shows are not a patch on this. They polish until Saturday lunchtime and that is it. The show is there to be enjoyed and the atmosphere is electric all around the site.
We left Friday morning by flying out at Bristol. Tigger (Ian) nearly had to undress, belt, steel toecaps etc. to get through security as he kept setting off the alarm. Good job we left in good time. We then flew to Amsterdam 50 minutes total and hired a car to use. We stayed in a lovely hotel right in the centre of Assan. The town is gorgeous really sleepy by day, pretty and very quiet. At night is comes alive although if you saw two cars in a row there must have been a rush hour as they all use push bikes. We went to the show both days, several lorries there from the UK. Tony & Graham (Smarts) Stuart Harvey, Garry Hindmarsh (KT Parker) Harry, Chris Hewlett (Danabb) Paul Ceal, Gareth Smart, Joe Sharp & Andy Leadbetter. The weather was so hot 34 degrees on Sunday afternoon. We were all mothered the whole weekend by Sue of Autosmart who was our lifesaver with somewhere to sit and always supplying drinks and snacks. Thank you for making the weekend so good for us. Until the weekend we didn’t realise
how much the trailer is used as a base, to sit down or have a hot or cold drink at our shows.
Andy Leadbetter had 2nd for Murals and Paintwork even though he isn’t a member we must congratulate him.
Next year if you are thinking of going there GO!! It’s a real eye opener and you go around the track and the lorries bring their 3 piece suites and put them in the pathway of the race track for people to sit on. Swimming pools and hundreds and thousands of gallons of water, with waterslides for all to use, isn’t there Paul & Roger. Disco units filing a 40ft trailer until you see it you can’t believe it and everyone that went said it was the best show ever. Its what shows are all about we take it far too serious to give it the atmosphere that shows deserve, we’ll be back there next year for sure.
Forgot to mention whilst looking for the hotel in Assan Tigger drove down a cycle and pedestrian road then reversed up a one way street, the wrong way of course! It caused quite a titter from the back seat!
