No. 42

Welcome to your club. The club is to be informal, relaxed and very friendly but at the same time professional.

We have had a wonderful year show wise so many good times, good company and absolutely rubbish weather apart from Detling and Assan.
Detling must rate amongst on of the best shows this year and Santa Pod has improved so mush show wise. The weather at Nassa, Shepton Mallet and Oswestry was memorable to be fair Nassa only some of the time but the other two well what can we say it poured and poured. I have never known Shepton to hold their results indoors because of the rain.
Live Promotions will always get the trucks but it’s the smaller ones that are so personal, the hospitality at Nassa, Oswestry Santa Pod, Thruxton and BIBIC are so welcoming in comparison, no commercials and you get the personal touch. At Nassa you get greeted with Bacardi as a starter making the trailers tea a poor second. But we know the drivers love to pull up with a cup of tea waiting for them.
We are still talking about Assan, Holland if you haven’t done it even without a lorry go there and trust me it’s an absolute thrill and an eye opener everyone should go at least once because you’ll want to go again and again.

TO RECAP, A FEW FUNNIES
Mark & Nicky Smith at Detling had a tent but on Sunday morning they woke up and on 2 blow ups were Mark, Nicky, Roger, Russell and Andy Lee all piled up!!!!!

Sue Garaway putting up 2 tents at shows one to sleep in and one just for storage!

Sue at Shepton Mallet went into a tent and said to this bloke’ what are you doing in my bed?’ his reply ‘What are you doing in my tent!’
She then came up to the trailer saying she’d had an awful experience and retold the story.

Russell Oliver for doing mud slides t Shepton on a plastic sheet with washing-up liquid and water straight into a mud puddle bath at the end!

There have been so many more, remind me and they will be included in the next news

UNITED TRUCKERS
WOULD LIKE TO WISH ALL THEIR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS A
MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND A HAPPY AND HEALTHY 2008

Also are you aware the American Lorry on The X Factor was once Bob’s!
It belonged to him at the time of filming so there that is our claim to fame it doesn’t get any better than that
Shirley

THANK YOU
We would like to thank all those that sponsored us to do our driving challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, which we did on the 21st October.
We managed to raise £366 towards the total of £15,000.  We drove all sorts of different vehicles from a 22 tonne loading shovel, Combine Harvester, ATV, JCB, Tractor, Fire Engine, Police car and an HGV.  Although Tigger was not impressed that Hannah drove a Dafodil!!!  We have a great afternoon and decided our favourite drives were the fire engines and police cars (I think it helped that we were told to floor it in the police cars). Jeremy Roff helped out on the day as a marshal and was disappointed that he wasn't allowed to drive the police range rover.
Many thanks again and we look forward to seeing you all soon to collect the sponsor money (if we haven't already)
Denise and Hannah.

BIBIC
We took 30 lories and from the last report you will know it was quite a show. I’m sure you will be interested to know that £3,000 will be given to them as a result of the show so well done to everyone, especially Blue Ridge Runners who stage the event.

CHILDRENS CONVOY
This has been booked for Saturday 7th June 2008 returning to Longleat. We are limited to 55 trucks, which is about right for us. We have had to have some limitations though, no air horns and carers to pay for their own rides etc. it seems there was some confusion last time. There will be no safari for the lorries this time.
We shall finalise details at the AGM, just a note for your diary for now.

NEXT YEAR DINNER & DANCE/AGM
This event has been booked a few details to confirm but generally the groundwork has been done. We went up to Yeovil and met Dave & Lo Cross and confirmed a lot of the evening that day.   It will be on Saturday 15th March at Quicksilver Mail, Yeovil about 200 yards from the Rugby Club.
The AGM will be at 6pm, which will be as usual members & spouses. Then the evening will be an open ticket event with the usual crowd as at Dave & Lo Cross’ event last year.
We will be decorating the room through the day and Dave thinks he has a sponsor to pay for the decorations. The band or disco has to be decided upon; Dave heard a really good band but would like to hear them again to be sure. Hopefully the bar will be open until 1am.
The food will be about 8.30pm and will be a hot buffet: chicken curry, chilli, lasagne and a vegetarian option, served with rice, potatoes and side salads. As this is a ticket event we shall have doormen. We will have a general raffle and 3 specials, which Dave will organise and get sponsors for. The profit from the raffle will be given to St Margaret’s Hospice, Yeovil in memory of Lo’s mum. Tickets will be £10 each and available from: Dave Cross on 07949296688
Tigger 07815811179                   Or Shirley 01823 276143/07889913837
We must stress that no tickets will be kept back to be paid for on the day, all tickets must be paid for prior to the day, you all have plenty of time and they are really reasonable priced. Tickets will be available at and from the Xmas Bash (1st December)
Accommodation has been organised and will be available at The Gloetrotter in the town about 30 rooms and a bus will take you to and from the hotel. Price of the bus will be confirmed later it will leave at 5.45pm to go to Quicksilver.

Thanks to Bob & Jackie Isherwood for al the stock they have donated to United Truckers for raffle Prizes. They will all come in very useful to raise money

Thank you to everyone who towed the trailer to events this year. It has been a difficult year for Tony with ill health so without this help the trailer just could not have been there. Tony has passed his medical has his HGV licence renewed so perhaps next year Polly will appear at some shows she’s had a bit of a rest (a year out I think they call it) so let’s hope she’s going to behave next year but just watch this space.
